Virginia Civil War Field Guide app for iPhone and iPad

This app is a tool to help create a self-guided tour of the most important Civil War sites in Virginia.

By any measure Virginia is ground zero for the American Civil War. Of the 348 places listed as “principle battlefields” by the Civil War Sites Advisory Commission, 123 are located in Virginia. Next in line is Tennessee with 38.

Today, many of those battlefields and other Civil War resources are preserved in Virginia’s national, state and local parks. The Civil War Trails program has identified and marked hundreds of other sites and traced the great military campaigns that criss-crossed the state during the war.

This guide is intended to help both novice and expert explore the dramatic places that continue to draw millions of visitors each year.
